When we say the Tara river we think of crystal clear, turquoise color, a mountain river that comes from two small rivers Opasnica and Verusa, on the western side of Komova in Montenegro.
With its small but numerous tributaries, it has created a river flow with a length of 149 km and cut out the deepest and the most beautiful canyon in Europe and the second in the world. The 96 km long canyon reaches up 1300m above sea level in some places and represents unique flora and fauna reserve. With its surrounding lakes, this is the biggest tank of drinking water in Europe.
The last forty kilometers of this river is the border line between Bosnia (Republika Srpska) and Montenegro. The Tara river ends its way on the Scepan Polje where it connects with the Piva river creating new river, Drina.
